Why Your Leads Aren't Converting
Leads coming in but not turning into customers? The break is in your system, not your traffic. Where leads actually die and how to find your break.
If leads are coming in but not turning into customers, you don't have a traffic problem. You have a break somewhere between the click and the sale, and more traffic will just push more people through the same broken system.
I see this constantly. A business runs ads, the ads work, leads show up, and then nothing. The owner's conclusion is almost always the same: we need more leads. Wrong conclusion. Expensive one, too.
Where leads actually die
There are three places to look, in order.
The message a mismatch. The ad promises one thing and the landing page talks about something else. The lead clicked because of a specific promise. When the page doesn't repeat that promise immediately, they assume they're in the wrong place and leave. I've watched leads come in asking a basic question the ad should have answered, which means the ad attracted people who didn't understand the offer in the first place.
The page that educates instead of converts. Most landing pages try to explain everything. History, philosophy, services, credentials. A landing page has one job: make the next step obvious. If a visitor has to think about what to do, most won't do anything.
The follow-up failure. This is the silent killer. A lead fills out a form and gets one email, two days later, from someone whose actual job is answering phones. Leads are perishable. A response in five minutes and a response in two days are different businesses. Most companies treat follow-up as admin. It's sales.
How to find your break
Walk your own funnel as a stranger. Click your ad. Read the page it lands on. Fill out the form. Time how long the response takes and read what it says. Somewhere in that walk you'll hit the moment where you, as a customer, would have bailed. That's your break.
Fix the system before you buy more traffic. Traffic through a broken system is just a faster way to waste money.
